About

I’ve bought thousands of books in more than 20 years of ministry. Many of those books were commentaries. Some were worth the money, some weren’t. But how to tell without actually taking the book home?

That’s the goal of this site. I want to give you insight and opinions about the usefulness of Bible commentaries and other resources so you can make your own decisions about purchasing those resources.

I’ll review books and make recommendations that I hope you’ll find useful. My emphasis is on what’s most useful in a teaching or preaching ministry. That means that sometimes I’ll pick a less technical or in-depth commentary because it’s more likely to help you in the week-to-week requirements of ministry. I’ll even include links you can use to purchase those books. And your opinions are welcome even if you disagree with my choice.

Just so you know, I come at the Bible from a conservative or evangelical position. I do believe in the inspiration of scripture and that certainly affects my evaluations on this site. But I won’t hesitate to recommend resources whose author doesn’t share my view of scripture if the book makes a valuable contribution to our understanding of the text.

Your comments and recommendations are welcome but I expect my readers to be respectful on this site.
